Hospital da Luz

It brings many advantages such as less exposure to X-rays, shorter execution times, fewer complications and a higher success rate, plus the obvious automation of the procedure.

In 2014, Professor Pedro Adragão, cardiologist and coordinator of the Cardiac Rhythm Centre of Hospital da Luz Clínica de Oeiras in Lisbon, Portugal, led a symposium titled, “Robotics, the New Frontier to Treat Arrhythmia.” In fact, at the time, this renowned physician and researcher had been exploring the frontier of robotic catheter ablation therapy for several years. In 2007, he was instrumental in bringing the Stereotaxis system to the Centre, making it the first system install in Portugal.

Wanting to provide “the best treatment to each patient,” the Centre performs many of their cardiac ablations using RMN and has become one of the most active and experienced with the system in the world, having performed more than 3,000 robotic procedures. “It brings many advantages,” says Prof. Adragão, “such as less exposure to X-rays, shorter execution times, fewer complications and a higher success rate, plus the obvious automation of the procedure.”

Prof. Adragão and his colleague, Dr. Diogo Cavaco, believe that “minimally invasive surgery will drive the future of all heart procedures” and are committed to leading the way!
